This initiative is part of the Officine Sintetiche project, funded by the CRT Foundation, and curated by Professors Letizia Gioia Monda and Antonio Pizzo.
The workshop will focus on exploring the transmission of the intangible cultural heritage of Giovanni Pastrone’s film Cabiria (1931 version) through a Virtual Reality performance, which will be created specifically for the event during the workshop.

Following the success of their immersive VR performance, DAZZLE: A Re-Assembly of Bodies, at the 2022 Venice International Film Festival, Gibson&Martelli will be guests of the Department of Humanities at the University of Turin for an intensive workshop on Performance and Virtual Reality.
This initiative is part of the Officine Sintetiche project, funded by the CRT Foundation, and curated by Professors Letizia Gioia Monda and Antonio Pizzo. It will be structured in two parts:
- A TALK – open to the interested public – where the two artists will discuss the topic of live performance in augmented reality, focusing on the role of somatic experience in the design of virtual reality. The talk will be followed by a DEMO, where the audience can experience some of the company’s VR works.
- The WORKSHOP, dedicated to students of University of Turin, Politecnico of Turin, and Accademia Albertina of Fine Arts (see the call for students) will focus on conveying the intangible cultural heritage of Giovanni Pastrone’s film Cabiria (1931 version) through a Virtual Reality performance created during the workshop.
Program:
- Talk: Monday, September 14th, 10 AM-12 PM; followed by Demo 12 PM-1 PM
- Workshop: Monday, September 14th, 2 PM to Friday, September 18th, 1 PM.
- Presentation of the prototype created during the workshop: Friday, September 18th, 3-6 PM
